Herbert Simon

Herbert Simon
1916- ) Investigador estadounidense, n. en Milwaukee (Wis.). Estudió en la Universidad de Chicago y trabajó en las de California y Carnegie-Mellon (Pittsburgh). Fue pionero en investigaciones sobre la forma en que deben tomarse decisiones en organizaciones económicas complejas (empresas públicas, multinacionales, etc.). Su obra más celebrada es Administrative Behavior: A Study of Decision-making Processes in Administrative Organization (1947) en la cual, en contra de la concepción clásica sobre la existencia de unos responsables en tomar decisiones que conocen todas las opciones, elabora un modelo o proceso racional de adopción de decisiones «satisfactorias». Su Spurious Correlation: A Causal Interpretation (1954), publicado en el Journal of the American Statistical Association, constituyó un primer avance metodológico en el análisis de encuestas. También es importante su The New Science of Management Decision (1960). En 1978 le fue concedido el premio Nobel de Economía por ser «uno de los investigadores más importantes en el terreno interdisciplinario» y «porque su trabajo ha contribuido a racionalizar el proceso de toma de decisiones».
